Free EV Charger Site Survey in the Chilterns
Before we install an EV charger, one of our NAPIT-registered engineers visits your property in person. We check your consumer unit, plan the cable route, assess the best mounting location, and give you a fixed quote on the spot. No forms to fill in. No photos to upload. No self-assessment. Most national EV charger companies ask you to survey your own home. We do not. Call 01494 977298 to book your free survey.
What does the free EV charger site survey involve?
The survey takes around 30 to 45 minutes. Our engineer works through the following:
- Consumer unit check: We look at the age, condition, and available capacity of your fuse board. Some older boards need upgrading before a new circuit can be added safely. If yours does, we tell you during the survey, not on installation day.
- Cable route planning: We identify the best path from your consumer unit to the charger location. We consider the shortest viable route, any external walls or underground sections, and how to keep the finished installation neat.
- Charger location: We discuss where you park, which direction the car faces, and how far the cable needs to reach. We recommend the best mounting position.
- Charger recommendation: Based on your car, your tariff, and your parking setup, we recommend the right charger for you. We carry Hypervolt and Ohme as standard.
- Fixed quote: We give you a written fixed quote before leaving. No estimates, no ranges.
Why do most EV charger companies ask customers to survey their own homes?
Most national EV charger installers operate at scale. To keep costs down, they send customers a self-survey form. You photograph your own fuse board, estimate your own cable distances, and describe your own parking setup. The problem is that homeowners are not electricians. Fuse board assessments done by untrained people regularly miss issues that only become apparent on installation day, at which point additional charges appear.
A self-survey cannot reliably detect an overloaded consumer unit, a non-compliant existing circuit, or a cable route that turns out to be through a protected structure.

What happens after the survey?
You receive a fixed written quote. If you are happy to proceed, we agree an installation date. On the day, the engineer who did your survey will know the job. We arrive with the right materials for your specific cable run, mount and connect the charger, commission it on the app, and test everything. You receive a NAPIT installation certificate before we leave. We are then available for six months of aftercare if anything needs attention.
What if my consumer unit needs upgrading before an EV charger can be fitted?
Some older consumer units, particularly those with rewirable fuses rather than modern MCBs, cannot safely accommodate an additional high-load circuit. If yours falls into that category, we identify it during the survey and quote the upgrade separately. A consumer unit replacement typically costs between £400 and £700 depending on the board size. Nothing is agreed or added without your approval. Read more about consumer unit replacement.
