Boiler Upgrade Scheme: up to £7,500 Towards a Heat Pump in the Chilterns

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides a £7,500 grant towards a qualifying heat pump installation. We apply on your behalf and deduct it from your invoice. You just pay the balance.

Who qualifies?

You have a valid EPC (within 10 years)

Your property needs an Energy Performance Certificate issued within the last 10 years. If you do not have one, we can arrange it. The EPC must not recommend cavity wall or loft insulation.

You are replacing a fossil fuel heating system

The grant applies to replacing gas, oil, or LPG boilers with a heat pump. Properties with electric heating may also qualify in some circumstances.

Your property is occupied (not new build)

The BUS grant applies to existing occupied homes. New build properties are not eligible.

Your installation must be MCS-certified

Only MCS-certified installations qualify for the BUS grant. Every heat pump we arrange is completed to full MCS standard, so your installation qualifies and the grant is applied.

Who does not qualify

  • New build properties
  • Properties with an EPC recommendation for cavity or loft insulation that has not been carried out
  • Replacing an existing heat pump
  • Commercial properties (separate scheme)
  • Properties without a current valid EPC

    System design

We design the right heat pump system for your property, sized correctly for your heat loss and hot water demand.

  3. 3

    We apply for the grant

We manage the full BUS application to Ofgem on your behalf before installation. You do not need to do anything.

  4. 4

    Grant approval

Ofgem approves the voucher, typically within a few days to two weeks.

  5. 5

    Installation day

We carry out the full installation. Most projects complete in 1–3 days depending on complexity.

  6. 6

    Reduced invoice

The £7,500 grant is deducted from your invoice. You pay the balance.

What do homeowners ask about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government grant that provides £7,500 off the cost of installing an air source heat pump (or £7,500 off a ground source heat pump). It is administered by Ofgem and paid directly to the installer, who deducts it from your invoice.
No. The application is handled on your behalf as part of your installation. The grant is deducted from your invoice. You pay the difference.
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rates your property's energy efficiency from A to G. To qualify for the BUS grant, your property needs a valid EPC (within 10 years) and must not have a current recommendation to install loft or cavity wall insulation. We check this at the site survey.
Yes. Landlords can claim the BUS grant for rental properties, provided the property meets the EPC requirements. The grant goes to the installer (us) and is deducted from the invoice.
No. The BUS grant is for new heat pump installations replacing fossil fuel heating systems (gas, oil, or LPG boilers). It does not apply to replacing an existing heat pump.
We submit the application before installation. Approval typically takes a few days to two weeks depending on Ofgem's current processing times. We handle all communication with Ofgem on your behalf.
