NAPIT-Certified Electricians in the Chilterns

Every electrical installation carried out by Chiltern Energy Group is completed by a NAPIT-registered engineer. All work is tested, certified to BS 7671 wiring regulations, and registered with NAPIT. NAPIT is a government-authorised competent person scheme. Registration means our engineers have been assessed as competent to self-certify their own work without the need for local authority inspection. Government-authorised scheme

What is NAPIT and why does registration matter?

NAPIT stands for National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers. It is one of the government-authorised competent person schemes in the UK, which means electricians registered with NAPIT can self-certify their work as compliant with Part P electrical work of the Building Regulations. NAPIT registration is not self-declared. It requires formal assessment of competence and is subject to ongoing audits. Choosing a NAPIT-registered electrician gives you confidence that the work will be done correctly, certified properly, and registered for the long-term record of your property.

What does NAPIT certification mean for your installation?

When a NAPIT-registered engineer completes notifiable electrical work on your property, three things happen:

  • You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate or EICR confirming the work is compliant with BS 7671.
  • The job is registered with NAPIT, which notifies your local authority as required under Part P.
  • The work becomes part of the formal record for your property, accessible to solicitors and insurers if needed.

This matters most when you sell your home. A buyer's solicitor will ask for certificates for all notifiable electrical work. Registered work is easy to evidence. Unregistered work is not.

How is NAPIT different from NICEIC?

Both NAPIT and NICEIC are government-authorised competent person schemes. Both allow registered electricians to self-certify Part P work. The main difference is in the way each scheme is structured and audited, but from a homeowner's perspective, the outcome is the same: properly certified, registered work from a qualified person. NAPIT registration is accepted by all local authorities in England for Part P purposes.

What NAPIT-certified work do we carry out across the Chilterns?

Our NAPIT-registered team covers:

  • EV charger installation: dedicated circuit, charger supply and fit, full commissioning
  • Consumer unit replacement: full board swap, retesting, and certification
  • EICR testing: inspection, report, and remedial work where required
  • New circuits: for home offices, kitchens, extensions, garden buildings
  • Full and partial rewires
  • Part P certification for all notifiable work

All work is carried out across the Chilterns including Amersham, Chesham, Great Missenden, Prestwood, Wendover, Princes Risborough, Lacey Green, Tring, Berkhamsted, Beaconsfield and surrounding villages. See our pages on EV charger installation in the Chilterns, consumer unit replacement, and Electrical Installation Condition Report.

What do homeowners ask about NAPIT certification?

NAPIT is the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers. It is a government-authorised competent person scheme that assesses and registers electricians as competent to self-certify their work under Part P of the Building Regulations.
A NAPIT-registered electrician has been formally assessed as competent and can self-certify their work without local authority inspection. You receive proper certification for the work and the installation is registered for your property's records. This matters for home insurance and when you sell your property.
Both NAPIT and NICEIC are government-authorised competent person schemes that allow registered electricians to self-certify Part P work. Both are widely accepted. From a homeowner's perspective, the certification you receive and the legal standing of the work is the same with either scheme.
You can check NAPIT registration on the NAPIT website at napit.org.uk. Search by company name or postcode. Registration should be current, not lapsed.
For new installation work, you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). For inspection and testing, you receive an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). Both are issued in accordance with BS 7671 and both confirm the work has been registered.
Yes. All electrical installation work carried out by Chiltern Energy Group is completed by NAPIT-registered engineers. This applies to EV charger installations, consumer unit replacements, EICR testing, new circuits, and all other fixed electrical work.
